The VRFP is a completely volunteer run pantry that serves those in need.  A large amount of the food and resources that pass through the pantry are donated by individuals, organizations, farms, businesses, and the government.

The majority of our financial support is used to purchase food; we work closely with The Good-Shepherd Food Bank and other partners to secure this food.

We collaborate with other organizations and pantries to gather resources and ensure that food gets where it is most needed.  We also offer educational programming in order to more fully meet the nutritional needs of clients.

Currently, the pantry serves about 350 families or 700-800 people a month at distribution; many of these clients are elderly and children.  We accept clients from the Unity, the surrounding area, and anyone in need.

Our board of directors meeting takes place at the

firehouse at 8:00AM on the first Saturday of the

month.  Meetings are open to the public.

The Volunteer Regional Food Pantry is a 501(c)(3) community-operated food pantry providing emergency and supplementary food and services to those at risk of hunger in the Unity, Maine area. The goal of the VRFP is to increase quality of life through a focus on food security.

about us

The Volunteer Regional Food Pantry was started in 1992 at the Unity Union Church, serving about 10 families. As the pantry grew, our volunteers knew they had to find another place. We moved to the Community Center on School Street and stayed there for about a year, until we outgrew that space, as well.

We then moved to the Unity Elementary School, which provided enough room for the distribution. At this time we distributed 20,000 pounds of food per month.  At each distribution, the volunteers would have to carry the food from the warehouse to the school and then back, a laborious process. Because of this, we began to look for a new headquarters.

Our current home is the former Unity firehouse on Depot Street.  This building allows us to store and distribute food from the same location, as well as offer a venue for meetings, classes, a backyard garden, an office, and highly-efficient “drive-through” distribution system.
